In 2024 I was invited as a guest speaker and award presenter at the Africa Renewable Energy Awards, known across the continent as “the Oscars of Energy.” It’s less a ceremony than a proof point: a room full of the people actually building Africa’s renewable energy transition, gathered in Nairobi to recognise work that doesn’t always make headlines.
Speaking there, and handing over an award myself, put me on the other side of a story I usually help tell from inside a company, that is watching up close what it looks like when an industry stops talking about the energy transition and starts rewarding the people driving it.
